Investing in the Community
At FCB, giving is part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR). From the beginning, the bank has implemented projects geared towards giving back to the communities in its service areas. In partnership with local government units and non-government organizations, the bank has enabled the implementation of various community development projects, and assisted individuals and communities attain a better quality of life. The bank's CSR is focused in the fields of health, education, livelihood and environment.
Like some corporations in the country, FCB practices corporate social responsibility, a practice where a corporation sets aside part of its earning to assist social development programs in the community. In support of this corporate philosophy, employees of the bank also share their time, resources, and expertise with the community on their free time.
Since 1989 the bank provides annually college scholarships to financially poor but academically deserving students to enable them to pursue quality education in various institutions of higher learning in the country. More than a hundred recipients have obtained college degrees, many of whom are now lawyers, engineers, accountants, agriculturists, and school teachers.
The bank's commitment to the community is also manifested through its direct contributions to non-government organizations such as the Philippine Business for Social Progress, the Bohol Medical Care Institute, the FCB Foundation, Philippine Tarsier Foundation, and Alfonso L. Uy Scholarship Foundation, among others. These non-stock, non-profit, and non-government organizations also serve as vehicle for the expression of the bank's CSR. Through these organizations, financial and technical assistance has been extended to hundreds of poor and underprivileged people, and efforts have also been made to conserve and manage the environment.
In addition, the bank is involved in many other community projects such as promotion of local tourism, awards and recognition like The Outstanding Boholano Awards (TOBAW) and emergency and relief operation.
